I started my experience becoming a Graphic Designer with my course at NAIT called Graphic Communications.
In my course at NAIT I had the opportunity to work with many of the design and page layout applications that are currently used in industry today. I have gained experience with applications such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. I have also learned how to use Corel Draw X5 and Quark Express. My instructors at NAIT helped me in improving my skills with these applications by giving us projects and assignments that would help me learn about the many different features that each program has to offer.
I had received many projects that I would receive working out in the real world. In my course I also had the opportunity to work for actual clients which helped me understand the type of work that I would be facing in the real world. My instructor’s also gave us assignments with short deadlines to see how well we can work under pressure and I was able to get the job done every time.
The last two weeks of my course were will be spent at a work practicum. My instructors have placed me with a design company for two weeks to see what it would be like to work in the real world and to also see the challenges that I might face while working out in industry.
